PORT Macquarie's Koala Hospital will use money raised from its adoption appeal to renew fencing and towards the running of its operation.
Fundraiser Geoff Best said the publicity resulting from its media release in November had given the hospital "unprecedented exposure", and inquiries continued to arrive daily.
It is understood there are more than 2000 adopters already at $50 a pop - $40 of which goes straight to the care facility.
Yesterday, a Sydney-based Japanese TV news crew was the latest to follow up its interest in the plight of the endangered marsupial.
Tokyo Broadcasting System's Australia correspondent Hiroki Iijima and cameraman Osamu Kanezaki visited the hospital to file a report about the adoption program.
"I have heard about the adoptions and I am aware of the concern for the future of koalas," Mr Iijima said.
"We wanted to visit the hospital to inform people in Japan of what the hospital is doing to help the animals."
Mr Best said there had been inquiries about the adoption program from Hungary, Bulgaria, Lithuania, United Arab Emirates, Israel, North America, Ireland and even Iraq.
"We've been absolutely inundated with emails," he said. "Every major news network - print and electronic - seems to have covered the story.
"There have also been inquiries from every state in Australia."
Mr Best is co-ordinator of the Friends of the Koala Hospital. He looks after fundraising, promotion and awareness, with the help of other volunteers.
"The money will go towards repairing the fences here," he said. "It will also contribute towards the $160,000 bill the hospital faces every year in vet costs, vehicles, insurance and daily overheads."
Aside from the financial benefits the adoption program has brought, Mr Best has been delighted with the increase in visitors to the hospital's website.
"There has been more traffic than usual, with people visiting the site and particularly the blog section," he said.
