On March 15, 2006, Managing Director of Conergy Pty Ltd. Christian Langen addressed FCA members on `Renewable Energy in Australia: Are we failing future generations today?' He provided an insight into international perspective on Australian policy and lost opportunities.

In contrast to popular belief, Australia is "not a renewable energy powerhouse". While Australia has some of the best renewable energy resources on the globe as well as leaders in research of solar and other technologies, the jobs, investments and export dollars go elsewhere. Why is that so? What is driving the renewable energy revolution in leading countries and where is Australia in this international picture? How could this change? Which policies work and which ones don't? What does it cost to put solar on more houses, what are the effects on economy and society and how can we get that going here?

These are some of the questions Christian addressed in his presentation and discussion with FCA members. With a background in finance and a Master in Production Management, Christian brings together management experience in several countries and business sectors, including renewable energy, materials technology, retail and travel. A common theme in all his business roles has been entrepreneurship. Christian originally joined the successful European solar technology company, Conergy, in Germany before starting Conergy Pty Ltd based in Sydney in January 2005.
