US EXPERT TO GIVE BRIEFING ON OBAMA VISIT
The United States Studies Centre’s Geoffrey Garrett will give a briefing to media representatives about the forthcoming visit to Australia by US President Barack Obama.
Professor Garrett is the chief executive of the US Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, a distinguished political scientist and one of Australia’s leading commentators on US affairs.
Professor Garrett will cover areas such as:
  • the significance of the visit
  • Australia-US political, military and economic relations
  • the foreign policy of President Obama
  • regional issues including China and Japan
  • Afghanistan and war on terror
  • international trade, Doha, AUSFTA and the Trans Pacific Partnership
  • the future of climate change mitigation
He will also take questions
The briefing is a joint event between the US Studies Centre and the Foreign Correspondents’ Association (Australia and South Pacific) and will be open to the domestic media.

The Foreign Correspondents' Association of Australia and the South Pacific (FCA) was founded 25 years ago by a group of like-minded correspondents and journalists with a shared world view, the same professional concerns and similar social interests. Early meetings were usually a rewarding mix of professional talk over a social lunch somewhere in Sydney´s Chinatown.
Beginning in February, casual and open-ended monthly lunches returned to the FCA´s events calendar on the final Friday of each month.
